For a blog that supports an e-commerce business, comments on the posts can be great for page ranking. They also help your blog content spread virally. Encouraging commenting on your blog posts is a great way to develop a relationship with your visitors, and can often boost sales.
Allowing Comments

Some blog owners do not allow Blog Commenting on their posts. This is done for several reasons. Perhaps the blog is being used only to stuff keywords (not a good SEO tactic). Some blogs get inundated with spam comments and the owners simply do not want to take the time to ensure this doesn’t occur. It could also be that the blog never receives comments and rather than show that, the owner simply disallows commenting.

For the purpose of good SEO or to support an e-commerce, allowing commenting is always a good idea.
How Comments Benefit Your Blog

Comments from visitors add value to the content. For one thing, commenters who are required to include their website address create an outbound link from your site – good for search engine optimisation. For another, people are more inclined to follow posts at a popular site and lots of comments indicate popularity. You may also see a keyword benefit as many visitors will purposefully, or inadvertently, add keywords related to your site topic in their comments.

Comments open up a form of discussion with other people on the internet. Informative posts can create interest in the topic. This is a great adjunct to your sales efforts and can also help the content spread in a viral manner as others are directed to the content.

In order to establish a relationship with the human visitors to your site (bots come too), comments are the easiest way to do that. All you have to do is acknowledge that they took the time and trouble to leave a comment and you will be well on your way to forming a relationship, and seeing an increase in sales.
How To Encourage Blog Commenting

Particularly when you are starting a new blog, it can be difficult to get visitors to start Blog Commenting. Here are a few tips to encourage commenting:

• Open-end your blog post, ask a question; encourage feedback.

• Reply to each comment that is left, this is part of forming that relationship.

• Write friendly posts, don’t be a know-it-all; admit that you may not know everything about a particular topic and invite others to share their experience or knowledge.

• Do not respond to a rude comment with anger, this only gets nasty commenters and flame wars going. Either ignore it, or delete it. You could also respond with a simple thanks for the input and leave it at that. Don’t get drawn into an online fight. Feel free to delete comments that are excessively abrasive, too. It’s YOUR blog so there doesn’t have to be freedom of speech.

• Write on a controversial subject and relate it to your niche market. People tend to comment more often when they feel strongly about a particular topic. Be cautious when using this tip, however, as you may offend some of your potential customers.
